UK envoy flays attack
Guwahati, March 3British High Commissioner to India Sir Richard Stagg, who is on his first ever visit to the region, today condemned the terrorists attack on Sri Lankan cricket players in Lahore and called for exemplary punishment to the perpetrators.
Talking to the media on the sideline of an interaction with representatives of the industry, entrepreneurs and academicians, the British High Commissioner said, “It was a horrific attack on the players of Sri Lankan cricket team. Pakistan authorities must take all possible steps to book the culprits and punish them. Sri Lankan cricket team had shown tremendous courage in coming to Pakistan to play cricket amid security concerns.”
Earlier, during his interaction with a cross-section of prominent persons in the North Eastern region, Sir Stagg had asked the region to sell itself to move ahead and not get bothered by the security environment which is stable now.
“The security environment is not that acute as it was a few years back and the region should instead concentrating on selling itself,” Stagg said at the interactive session on “UK and Northeast India - Sustainable development through trade and investment”.
