Tewari pities Akalis for importing rejected leaders from Congress

LUDHIANA: The All India Congress Committee spokesperson Manish Tewari today pitied the Shiromani Akali Dal for its desperation to induct the rejected leaders from Congress like Gurcharan Singh Galib and field him from a prestigious seat like Ludhiana.
Addressing a series of meetings in villages like Alamgir, Sangowal, Jarkhar, Tiba, Jaspal Bangar and Jassal falling under the newly carved Gill assembly segment here today, Tewari remarked, it was surprising that the Shiromani Akali Dal, which was in power in the state could not find a single candidate from its own cadre that it had ultimately to be content with an aging leader like Galib who was rejected by the Congress for his non performance.
He said, “the Akalis’ plight is understandable, but they were so desperate and scared that they had to rely on a leader who was begging for a graceful exist from politics, is quite surprising”. But, Tewari added, “beware you Akalis, if Galib cannot be sincere to the Congress, he cannot be sincere to anybody”. He pointed out, it was the Congress which had elevated him to such a status that he was able to bargain and yet he had always cheated and deceived the Congress as was revealed by the Akali leaders themselves that he was always in league with them.
The AICC spokesperson said, it was not the issue of fielding a Congress candidate on Akali ticket, it was the state of affairs of the party which knew that its days were over. He said, the Akalis had failed the expectations of people as they were indulging in rampant corruption. There was no development seen anywhere. The power situation was worst than it used to be during the British regime, he said, while adding no section of the society was happy with the government.
Tewari maintained, “this government had halted the development of the state initiated during the Congress regime led by Capt Amarinder Singh”. He pointed out, “what to speak of starting new projects or bringing in investment, they have ensured that the earlier projects were closed down and the investors were made to run away”.
He asserted that the days of the Akali-BJP government were numbered as the countdown had already begun. “The parliamentary elections will mark the beginning of the end of this corrupt and inefficient regime”, he claimed, while adding, “the Congress would sweep all the 13 seats as people wanted to teach this government a hard lesson”.
Others who spoke during these meetings included former minister Milkiat Singh Birmi, former Myor, Nahar Singh Gill, Jagjivanpal Singh Gill, Balwinder Singh Judge, Harinder Kaur Alamgir and others. (eom)
