Capt.Kanwaljit Singh's son Jasjit Singh Bunny resigns from SAD

Announces to contest as an independent from Patiala Lok Sabha seatCHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) Friday got a big jolt when Jasjit Singh Bunny son of former cooperation minister late Capt Kanwaljit Singh resigned from the primary membership of SAD and announced to contest as an independent candidate from Patiala Lok Sabha seat.
"I have decided to contest as an independent candidate from Patiala and tender my resignation from the SAD" was all Bunny told media at a hurriedly convened press conference on Friday. He has also resigned from post of Chairman of Punjab Cooperative Bank.
The announcement by Bunny caught the SAD leadership by surprise while even the last rites of Capt. Kanwaljit Singh are yet to be performed. The Bhog ceremony of Cap. Kanwaljit Singh is slated for April 5. He died in a road accident on March 29 last.
The family of Capt Kanwaljit Singh was keen to adjust Bunny as a minister in the Parkash Singh Basdal cabinet. SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal a few days back ahd told the media while replying to a question that there is no need to adjust Bunny since he is already Chairman of Punjab Cooperative Bank. The statement by Sukhbir Badal understood to have triggered anger in the Capt's family. Even close confidants of late Kanwaljit Singh were surprised at the Bunny's action.
