The manifesto released by the SAD yesterday can best be described a bundal of white lies that reflects the 50 years of political cheating that S. Parkash Singh Badal has done with the Sikhs and Punjabi’s. The SAD has completely abandoned its main ideological ‘Panthic agenda’ and a few demands like transfer of Chandigarh, demand for left out Punjabi speaking areas, more powers to states are cosmetic demands which Mr. Badal has himself never taken seriously, he could have got a few implemented when the NDA ruled from 1999 to 2004 and he was CM Punjab last time.

Similarly the promise of Rs. 2 per Kg rice and wheat to the poor are a last ditch effort to woo the voters whom they have cheated with their Atta- Dal by making blue cards on partisan lines. Knowing fully well that the underprivileged felt cheated by the Atta- Dal scheme, the Akali’s are making a desperate attempt to befool them again.

As far as the promise of the SAD to allow more autonomy to the CBI and the Election Commission are concerned, it is a clear attempt to hoodwink the voters of Punjab. The electorate fully well knows that a regional party alone cannot alter the powers of such important national level organizations. Why the Akali’s did not get these organizations more powers during the NDA tenure? Can the Akali’s get more powers for the CBI or the EC while they themselves have been begging for more powers to the states for the last 50 years?

Similarly the promise of one rank one pension doled out to the ex-serviceman is not in the purview of the SAD-BJP Govt., it is a national issue to be decided by the Indian Govt. and not the Akali’s.

The Akali’s have utterly failed to implement their state level promises in the last two years made by them in their manifesto during assembly elections. Their claim to make Punjab power surplus in 3 years has fallen flat, where is the Anandpur Sahib resolution of the Akali’s, asks the Congress party ?

Sensing defeat on all 13 Lok Sabha seats the Akali’s have embarked on making false and frivolous promises to the Punjabi’s. The Congress party urges the aware voters of Punjab not to fall prey to such bogus and misleading propaganda of the fraudulent Akali’s and their untruthful leader S. Parkash Singh Badal.
