On the occasion of BAISAKHI MELA , All India Congress Committee General Secretary Rahul Gandhi will take on the Shiromani Akali Dal –Bharatiya Janata Party Govt in Punjab by addressing his first campaign rally in the state on April 14,2009 in Talwandi Sabo.

Sardar Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu MLA Talwandi Sabo said the AICC General Secretary’s first election rally in the Akali ruled state will be politically significant as the occasion will be used by all the parties, including the Akalis ,to organize rallies at Talwandi Sabo, which falls in Bhatinda Parliamentary Constituency, from where S.Raninder Singh s/o Capt Amarinder Singh Chairman Congress Campaign Committee and former chief minister is contesting the Lok Sabha seat.

Rahul Gandhi’s address will send out a clear message to the Punjab electorate especially the youth to vote against the misgovernance of the SAD-BJP government.Mr Sidhu said the visit would be significant as it will boost the morale of the state unit, which is expecting an electoral gain on the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab, in the coming general election,ridindg on a strong anti-incumbency sentiment in the entire state. Mr Rahul Gandhi will pay obeisance at the Takhat Damdama Sahib Gurudwara in Talwandi Sabo on April 14,2009.He is scheduled to return to the national capital after addressing a massive rally there.
