Congress delegation meets Home Minister and Election Commissioners in New Delhi
A delegation led by Mrs Mohsina Kidwai Gen Secy AICC in charge Punjab, comprising of Capt Amarinder Singh Chairman Campaign Committee,Mrs Ambika Soni Union Minister,Mr.Ashwani Kumar Union Minister, Mrs Rajinder Kaur Bhattall, the Cong. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MP's ,Mr Jagmeet Brar,Mr. Manish Tiwari and Jeetmohinder Singh MLA met the Home Minister GOI in Delhi today. They apprised him of the Political terror let loose by the Akali- BJP led Govt. In Punjab. It was brought to his notice that over 1200 FIR's comprising almost 4500 Cong workers have been registered against them during the last two years. Many Cong workers have also lost their lives during the last Panchayat and Corporation Elections. It was also brought to his notice that none of the suspects have been rounded up and are even today roaming in their respective areas freely and without the fear of law.
A request was made to him to deploy Central Forces for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections so the people of Punjab can vote without fear of the present Akali-BJP Govt.The Home Minister gave a very patient hearing and assured the Cong delegation that every aspect of what was brought to his notice will be looked into.
Later the delegation comprising of Capt Amarinder Singh, Mrs Rajinder Kaur Bhattal,Mr Jagmeet Brar and Cong Lok Sabha MP's and Jeetmohinder Sigh MLA met the Election Commissioners' in Commission office and brought the same facts to their notice. All the Copies of the Various FIR's, photographs of the murdered Cong workers were placed on record with the Commission.
The Election Commissioners assured the delegation that they will look into the Complaints put forward and to provide Central forces for the entire State of Punjab in the Lok Sabha elections.
