So let's get down to it! Drum roll please... the best three answers to Why Do You Want a Ticket to the Rocket French Learning Lounge? Here's what two of the winners had to say:
Winner #1 Maurice O. Sungu
I am just over two weeks in Rwanda now. I came to the University of Agriculture, Technology and Education of Kibungo (UNATEK) to take up a teaching position. This university is committed to the implementation of the new national policy of changing from French to English. I am here because I speak English. Many people in this university do not know English. Even the few who know it have less than the bare minimum. This means that much of the language of communication between the faculty, students and the non-teaching staff is Kinyarwanda and French.
I have some very basic knowledge of French, but this is is not sufficient to effectively help these students optimally. I therefore need to polish my French as fast as possible. I am really under no obligation to learn the language because I am supposed to deliver my lectures in English. It is their business to struggle to learn English. However, I think it is only fair that both the students and I meet at some common point where we can communicate. Therefore, as they struggle to learn English, I must also struggle to learn French. May the May the Rocket French Learning Lounge help me.
Winner #2 Deserie Mercuur Hi. After I've seen a lady in her 50's playing the recorder and violin which she only learned to play now recently, am I very determined to learn the French language. Money is a little tight right now but very soon do I want to put my desire into practice. I have been holding onto my dream of speaking the language for 25 years. My sisters and I planned to travel to France in 2012 so by then I need to have made work of my dreams. Thanks and regards, Deserie Mercuur.
