UNITED SIKHS Issues Call to Sikh Community to Actively Participate in 2010 Census
Sikh Community Urged to "Be Counted" to Ensure Just Allocation of Resources
New York, NY, USA: Every 10 years, the United States government is required by the Constitution to conduct a Census count. The importance of the Census count cannot be stressed enough – Census data is used to determine how more than $300 billion per year in federal and state funding is allocated to communities for neighborhood improvements, public health, new hospitals, services for the elderly, roads, schools, education funding, social services, and much more. That's more than $3 trillion over a 10-year period. The Census also determines how many representatives your state will have in Congress. UNITED SIKHS has partnered with the US Census Bureau to ensure Sikhs are counted, so that much needed resources will be available to the Sikh community.
How Can I Participate? Every household in the country will receive a Census questionnaire in 2010. To ensure an accurate and fair count of all populations at all geographic levels in the nation, the Census Bureau needs you or someone in your household to respond to the census questionnaire. By completing your questionnaire you are providing data that will help our nation, your state and your community make major decisions over the next 10 years.
Estimates of the Sikh population as of 2005 came to about 500,000 Sikhs living in the US. This is not an official total, and we will not have an accurate count if Sikhs do not participate, and write in "SIKH" under the "Some Other Race" category. The Sikh population in the US has grown exponentially in the past 10 - 20 years.
Is the Census Safe? Your safety is assured when you participate in the Census. For those Sikhs who are in the United States illegally, this campaign is designated to include you as well. By law the Census Bureau cannot ask you if you are an illegal nor can they provide any information they gather to any other governmental agency for 72 years.
The U.S Census defines who we are as a nation. Achieving a complete and accurate 2010 Census is in our hands. Give American Sikhs a fighting chance. We need your help with this enormous task. UNITED SIKHS and the Census Bureau are doing presentations in your community; contact us at law-usa@unitedsikhs.org if you are interested in setting up a "Be Counted Site" or a "Questionnaire Assistance Center" in partnership with the US Census Bureau.
Spending just a few minutes to fill out your census form will help ensure your community gets its fair share of federal and state funding. Under the question "What Is Person's Race," mark "Some Other Race" and write "SIKH." Help plant the seeds of OUR FUTURE!!! Census affects your voice in Congress: Mandated by U.S Constitution, the census is used to apportion seats in the U.S House of Representatives and to redistrict state legislatures.

जानी-मानी गायिका आशा भोसले का मानना है कि रीमिक्स से गीतों की महक ख़त्म हो जाती है.
इनके शोर तले गीतों की असली महक और पहचान दब जाती है. वे लंबे अरसे बाद इस साल दुर्गापूजा के मौक़े पर अपना बांग्ला अलबम पेश करने की तैयारी में हैं.
सोलह साल बाद किसी शो के लिए कोलकाता आई इस गायिका ने गीत-संगीत के विविध पहलुओं पर बातचीत की. पेश है बातचीत के प्रमुख अंश.
आप इतने लंबे अरसे बाद किसी शो के लिए कोलकाता आई हैं. इस देरी की वजह?
वजह कोई ख़ास नहीं है. एक के बाद दूसरे कार्यक्रमों में व्यस्तता के कारण आना नहीं हो पा रहा था.
लेकिन आयोजकों ने जब रवींद्र जयंती के मौके पर यहां आयोजित दोदिनी समारोह में मुझसे गाने का अनुरोध किया तो मैं इनकार नहीं कर सकी.
अगर यह कविगुरू का मामला नहीं होता तो शायद इस बार भी आना नहीं हो पाता. लेकिन मैं उनको अपनी श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित करना चाहती थी. यह सिर्फ़ मेरी नहीं, बल्कि पूरे महाराष्ट्र की श्रद्धांजलि है.
आपने अरसे बाद रवींद्र संगीत गाया है. इसमें कोई कठिनाई महसूस हुई?
हां, मैंने कोई 20 साल पहले अंतिम बार रवींद्र संगीत गाया था. इसलिए कुछ घबराहट ज़रूर थी. लेकिन एक बार रिहर्सल के बाद ही कुछ आत्मविश्वास पैदा हो गया.
जो बात आपके मन में है, वह चेहरे पर भी झलकती है. मैंने हमेशा जीवन का भरपूर आनंद लिया है. वहीं खुशी मेरे हाव-भाव और चेहरे पर भी झलकती है. जीवन में दुखी या नाराज होना ठीक नहीं है. जो होना है वह तो होगा ही. तो क्यों न हर पल का आनंद लिया जाए
आशा भोसले
कविगुरू के लिखे गीतों को गाना आसान नहीं है. मैं गाते हुए काफ़ी डर रही थी. लेकिन लोगों ने इसे काफ़ी पसंद किया. मैंने स्टेज पर छह गाने गाए.
आप बांग्ला बोलने में सहजता महसूस करती हैं?
पहले जब राहुल देव बर्मन साहब जीवित थे तो मैं काफ़ी बढ़िया बांग्ला बोलती थी. लेकिन अब भूलती जा रही हूं. लेकिन अगली बार जब इस शहर में आऊँगी तो बेहतर बांग्ला बोलने का प्रयास करुंगी. बांग्ला बोलना मुझे पसंद है. आखिर मैं कोलकाता की बहू हूँ.
आप इस साल एक बांग्ला अलबम की भी योजना बना रही हैं?
हां, दुर्गापूजा से पहले मेरा यह अलबम रीलिज़ हो जाएगा. लंबे अरसे बाद मैं बांग्ला में पूरा अलबम बना रही हूं.
इन दिनों रीमिक्स का दौर है. रवींद्र नाथ टैगोर के गीतों को भी रीमिक्स किया जा रहा है. रीमिक्स के बारे में आपकी क्या राय है?
यह ठीक नहीं है. कोई भी व्यक्ति किसी गाने पर काफ़ी मेहनत करता है, उसे रीमिक्स के जरिए एक झटके में बदलना उचित नहीं है. इससे उन गीतों की असली महक ख़त्म हो जाती है. इस शोर-शराबे और बेतुकी तुकबंदियों में संगीत की आत्मा कहीं गुम हो जाती है.
शास्त्रीय संगीत के मुक़ाबले फ़िल्मी संगीत को पिछड़ा समझा जाता है?

नए गायक-गायिकाओं में बेहतर कौन है?
कई लोग हैं. लेकिन इस समय मौलिक प्रतिभाओं का अभाव है. कोई भी अपनी मौलिक आवाज़ में गाना नहीं चाहता. कोई किशोर साहब की आवाज़ की नकल कर रहा है तो कोई रफी साहब की. हर कलाकार की अपनी अलग पहचान होनी चाहिए. अपनी पहचान बनाने के लिए आत्मविश्वास बहुत ज़रूरी है. इस क्षेत्र में भी लगातार रियाज और मेहनत करना ज़रूरी है.
पचहत्तर पार की उम्र में भी युवाओं जैसा जोश कैसे बनाए रख पाती हैं?

जानी-मानी गायिका आशा भोसले का मानना है कि रीमिक्स से गीतों की महक ख़त्म हो जाती है.
इनके शोर तले गीतों की असली महक और पहचान दब जाती है. वे लंबे अरसे बाद इस साल दुर्गापूजा के मौक़े पर अपना बांग्ला अलबम पेश करने की तैयारी में हैं.
सोलह साल बाद किसी शो के लिए कोलकाता आई इस गायिका ने गीत-संगीत के विविध पहलुओं पर बातचीत की. पेश है बातचीत के प्रमुख अंश.
आप इतने लंबे अरसे बाद किसी शो के लिए कोलकाता आई हैं. इस देरी की वजह?
वजह कोई ख़ास नहीं है. एक के बाद दूसरे कार्यक्रमों में व्यस्तता के कारण आना नहीं हो पा रहा था.
लेकिन आयोजकों ने जब रवींद्र जयंती के मौके पर यहां आयोजित दोदिनी समारोह में मुझसे गाने का अनुरोध किया तो मैं इनकार नहीं कर सकी.
अगर यह कविगुरू का मामला नहीं होता तो शायद इस बार भी आना नहीं हो पाता. लेकिन मैं उनको अपनी श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित करना चाहती थी. यह सिर्फ़ मेरी नहीं, बल्कि पूरे महाराष्ट्र की श्रद्धांजलि है.
आपने अरसे बाद रवींद्र संगीत गाया है. इसमें कोई कठिनाई महसूस हुई?
हां, मैंने कोई 20 साल पहले अंतिम बार रवींद्र संगीत गाया था. इसलिए कुछ घबराहट ज़रूर थी. लेकिन एक बार रिहर्सल के बाद ही कुछ आत्मविश्वास पैदा हो गया.

कविगुरू के लिखे गीतों को गाना आसान नहीं है. मैं गाते हुए काफ़ी डर रही थी. लेकिन लोगों ने इसे काफ़ी पसंद किया. मैंने स्टेज पर छह गाने गाए.
आप बांग्ला बोलने में सहजता महसूस करती हैं?
पहले जब राहुल देव बर्मन साहब जीवित थे तो मैं काफ़ी बढ़िया बांग्ला बोलती थी. लेकिन अब भूलती जा रही हूं. लेकिन अगली बार जब इस शहर में आऊँगी तो बेहतर बांग्ला बोलने का प्रयास करुंगी. बांग्ला बोलना मुझे पसंद है. आखिर मैं कोलकाता की बहू हूँ.
आप इस साल एक बांग्ला अलबम की भी योजना बना रही हैं?
हां, दुर्गापूजा से पहले मेरा यह अलबम रीलिज़ हो जाएगा. लंबे अरसे बाद मैं बांग्ला में पूरा अलबम बना रही हूं.
इन दिनों रीमिक्स का दौर है. रवींद्र नाथ टैगोर के गीतों को भी रीमिक्स किया जा रहा है. रीमिक्स के बारे में आपकी क्या राय है?

ਉਹਨਾਂ ਹਮਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਇਰਾਨਾ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕਰਾਰ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਇੱਥੇ ਸੰਤ ਰਾਮਾਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਉੱਪਰ ਹਮਦਰਦੀ ਜ਼ਾਹਰ ਕਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਆਨਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਡੇਰਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਸੰਤ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦਾਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਹੋਏ ਹਮਲੇ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
ਬਾਦਲ ਨੇ ਰਾਜ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਬਹਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਡੇਰਾ ਨੇਤਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਬਾਦਲ ਨੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਡਿਵੀਜ਼ਨਲ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਐਸਆਰ ਲੱਧੜ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਮਹਾਂਨਿਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਸੰਜੀਵ ਕਾਲੜਾ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਕ ਸੰਮਤੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਰਾਜ ਵਿਚ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਮੀਖਿਆ ਕਰੇਗੀ।
ਰਾਜ ਵਿਚ 25 ਲੋਕ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਡੇਰੇ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਦੀ ਲਾਸ਼ ਜਲਦੀ ਹੀ ਲਿਆਂਦੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਮੁੱਦੇ 'ਤੇ ਉਹ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਹਨ।
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੰਤ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਸੀ ਸਨਮਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਤਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

I have heared the news from every where of news paper that Indian Students have injured in the Country of Australia and the Australia Government have unable to secured the Indian Students. Now I am in seeing zee news site that from the North city of Amritsar Punjab many many people protesting and saying that Indian Government should be secured to their children in Australia. From the bbchindi.com I have also heared the live telecaste news from Australia Indian students problem and One lac Indian community students are studing in Australia and like this Australian Government have lots of income from Indian students. Its very very shameful subject for the Government of Australia. If from the Government of Australia have not taken any step then from the Indian community in Europe have more and more protested against the Australian Government .

Rudd sorry for attacks on Indian students

New Delhi, Canberra, May 29: Government’s incessant diplomatic pressure on Australia finally bore fruit on Friday as Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd termed the attacks on the Indian students as ‘unfortunate’ and tendered an apology to PM Dr Manmohan Singh. “The attacks are appalling in every sense,” Rudd said during his telephonic conversation with the Prime Minister.
“It was a criminal act, opportunistic in nature. There is nothing to suggest it was a racist attack,” he said to PM Dr Manmohan Singh, who has expressed grave concerns over the attacks.
The apology from Prime Minister Kevin Rudd came shortly after the government asked the Australian establishment to ensure safety of Indian students and prevent the recurrence of such attacks in the future.
While the Australian government still refuses to accept the racist angle to the attacks, it has guaranteed to do its best to ensure the safety and well being of Indians living there.
Australian High Commissioner summoned
Earlier, the Ministry OF External Affairs summoned the Australian High Commissioner to India John McCarthy to express concern about the security of its students Down Under.
While in Delhi, coming out of the meeting at the MEA, High Commissioner McCarthy said that the Australian government was very concerned about the these attacks.
He also, importantly, accepted that there was a racial element to these attacks.
“I can see these attacks as criminal, but I don’t rule out element of racism,” said McCarthy.
Within hours of McCarthy’s meeting at the MEA, newly appointed Union External Affairs Minister SM Krishna also talked to his Australian counterpart Stephen Smith.
It is believed that, during the 20 minute long phone call, the Australian minister on behalf of his government has assured safety of Indian students in their country.
Earlier, Krishna had also spoken to Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd expressing concern over the issue.
Also, Minister for Overseas Affairs Vayalar Ravi, while expressing concern over the attacks said that “things would be in place within the next 24-48 hours”.
Ravi added that he has sought an immediate report from the Indian High Commission in Canberra on the entire issue.
Stressing home the importance being imparted by the Oz government to prevent such attacks, the High Commissioner pointed out that steps are being taken to inform the students about the conditions in Australia, adding that a lot of work needs to be done to live up to the country’s reputation as a welcoming country.

Welcome to June!
May was a busy month for us. TravelPod unveiled a completely new blogging platform design.
I also went on a roadtrip across America meeting some of my favourite bloggers. We had so much fun that I'm organizing another meetup in Toronto.
TravelPod's slick new look
Completely new design
TravelPod is undergoing an intense redesign at the moment.
Phase 1 of the plan is already complete. The new design of the "dashboard" system will be in use on Monday, June 1.
All of our dedicated beta testers have given us incredible amounts of feedback, and we thank them for it for the rest of our days.
We've rebuilt the system from the ground up. Check out TravelPod founder Luc Levesque's guerrilla-style video (don't mind the shaky camera) introducing the new look.
In case you can't wait for Monday, there is a way to try out the new system right now.
1. Login to TravelPod as normal.
2. Click "Try it out right now" in the the bright green banner at the top of your screen.

Welcome to June!
May was a busy month for us. TravelPod unveiled a completely new blogging platform design.
I also went on a roadtrip across America meeting some of my favourite bloggers. We had so much fun that I'm organizing another meetup in Toronto.
TravelPod's slick new look
Completely new design
TravelPod is undergoing an intense redesign at the moment.
Phase 1 of the plan is already complete. The new design of the "dashboard" system will be in use on Monday, June 1.
All of our dedicated beta testers have given us incredible amounts of feedback, and we thank them for it for the rest of our days.
We've rebuilt the system from the ground up. Check out TravelPod founder Luc Levesque's guerrilla-style video (don't mind the shaky camera) introducing the new look.
In case you can't wait for Monday, there is a way to try out the new system right now.

USA meetup recap

Me and my friends hopped in a car and met up with a bunch of TravelPod bloggers.

Raja Fat & Feed Pvt. Ltd was set up in 1995. The company is located in Rajpura, Punjab. “Maximum shareholders of the company are within the family,” says Mr. Mohit Raja, director. The company manufactures poultry feed, cattle feed, broiler feed, layer feed and rabbit feed. Raja Fat & Feeds is an ISO 9001:2000 certified company. “Recently we have done the rating of our organization by Dun & Bradstreet,” maintains Mr. Raja.
Products Range
The range of products offered by the company is the following:
· Poultry feed
· Broiler concentrate feed
· Cattle feed
· Layer concentrate feed
· Broiler crumbs
· Layer crumbs
· Pallets
· Bazra
· Maize
· Ground nut
· De-oiled rice bran
· De-oiled mustard cake
· De-oiled sunflower cake
· De-oiled soya flakes
· Groundnut extraction cake
Product Suitability
When asked for which animals the products are most suitable, Mr. Raja avers, “Our products are mainly for egg laying bird (i.e. layer), for broilers (the chicken that we eat), for cattle (milking cows as well) and rabbit.” The products are sold under the brand name of ‘Super Feeds’. “The shelf life of our products varies from product to product, like poultry feed have a shelf life of 30-40 days,” he adds.
He explains, “Poultry feeds are referred to as “complete” feeds, because they are designed to contain all the protein, energy, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients necessary for proper growth, egg production and health of the birds. Feeding any other ingredients, mixed with the feed or fed separately, upsets the balance of nutrients. Feeding additional grain or supplement with the complete poultry feed is not recommended.” Further explaining the meaning of layer feed, Mr. Raja says, “The feed is basically used for egg laying bird.”
Speaking about the advantages of the products over similar products offered by competition, Mr. Raja says, “Our advantage is our quality, and the services that we provide. The cost of the product is also cheaper than our competitors.”
Source of Ingredients
The main ingredients of poultry feed are basically food grains, like soya bean, sunflower, mustard, corn, millets etc. The company procures these materials from within the country.
Client Base
Some of the prominent clients of the company include Godrej Agrovet and Sughna Poultry farms beside others “Our target customers are region based. We have a strong dealer network base of 200 dealers in about 7 states of north India,” avers Mr. Raja. “We have also recently exported poultry feed to Iraq,” he adds.
Business Turnover
The company has employed 10 staff members and about 20 laborers on a permanent basis, and 40 workers on a contract basis. “Our company’s turnover in terms of sales for the year 2007-2008 was about Rs.40 crores,” says Mr. Raja.

The company is equipped with a manufacturing unit equipped with modernized manufacturing as well as packaging machines. It also has hi-tech laboratories to test all the products ready for packing, storage, distribution and sales. The company has hygienic warehouse, which facilitates the storage of voluminous stock of animal nutritional products. The warehouse is also facilitated with freezers where hygienic features like temperature as well as humidity are controlled by special devices and equipment. Raja Fat & Feed carry in-house packing unit, where all our products are packed after examination. All the basic packaging related check ups are done at this stage.
Herbal Feed Products
Commenting on the herbal animal healthcare and feed products, Mr. Rajaj says, “For herbal medicine there are some products that work very well in the feed, like herbal vitamin C, and there are some which do not add any advantage in using the basic obstacle in expanding the market is, the nature of the business, as this industry is credit governed and not very organized this sometimes poses hindrances in expanding.”
Future Plans
The company has major plans for expansion in the near future. “We want to reach sales turnover of more than Rs.100 crores by 2010, and convert our existing manufacturing plant into a fully automatic one. We are the first company from North India to export poultry feed,” says Mr. Raja.
He further adds, “At the beginning, the turnover of our company was about Rs.10 crores. In the year 2001 we launched our own brand ‘Super Feed’ and that was also the year when I joined this organization. In the year 2004 I was appointed the director of the company. We have a great deal of experience in manufacturing feed, as we did some good volumes of feed manufacturing for “Gold Mohur” a company of Hindustan Liver Limited , now owned by Godrej Agrovet. Some of our prominent customers include.” Mr. Raja has done his graduation in business administration from Punjab University and his masters in retail management from Symbiosis, Pune.

Raja Fat & Feed Pvt. Ltd was set up in 1995. The company is located in Rajpura, Punjab. “Maximum shareholders of the company are within the family,” says Mr. Mohit Raja, director. The company manufactures poultry feed, cattle feed, broiler feed, layer feed and rabbit feed. Raja Fat & Feeds is an ISO 9001:2000 certified company. “Recently we have done the rating of our organization by Dun & Bradstreet,” maintains Mr. Raja.

The range of products offered by the company is the following:

Product Suitability
When asked for which animals the products are most suitable, Mr. Raja avers, “Our products are mainly for egg laying bird (i.e. layer), for broilers (the chicken that we eat), for cattle (milking cows as well) and rabbit.” The products are sold under the brand name of ‘Super Feeds’. “The shelf life of our products varies from product to product, like poultry feed have a shelf life of 30-40 days,” he adds.
He explains, “Poultry feeds are referred to as “complete” feeds, because they are designed to contain all the protein, energy, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients necessary for proper growth, egg production and health of the birds. Feeding any other ingredients, mixed with the feed or fed separately, upsets the balance of nutrients. Feeding additional grain or supplement with the complete poultry feed is not recommended.” Further explaining the meaning of layer feed, Mr. Raja says, “The feed is basically used for egg laying bird.”
Speaking about the advantages of the products over similar products offered by competition, Mr. Raja says, “Our advantage is our quality, and the services that we provide. The cost of the product is also cheaper than our competitors.”
Source of Ingredients
The main ingredients of poultry feed are basically food grains, like soya bean, sunflower, mustard, corn, millets etc. The company procures these materials from within the country.
Client Base
Some of the prominent clients of the company include Godrej Agrovet and Sughna Poultry farms beside others “Our target customers are region based. We have a strong dealer network base of 200 dealers in about 7 states of north India,” avers Mr. Raja. “We have also recently exported poultry feed to Iraq,” he adds.
Business Turnover
The company has employed 10 staff members and about 20 laborers on a permanent basis, and 40 workers on a contract basis. “Our company’s turnover in terms of sales for the year 2007-2008 was about Rs.40 crores,” says Mr. Raja.

The company is equipped with a manufacturing unit equipped with modernized manufacturing as well as packaging machines. It also has hi-tech laboratories to test all the products ready for packing, storage, distribution and sales. The company has hygienic warehouse, which facilitates the storage of voluminous stock of animal nutritional products. The warehouse is also facilitated with freezers where hygienic features like temperature as well as humidity are controlled by special devices and equipment. Raja Fat & Feed carry in-house packing unit, where all our products are packed after examination. All the basic packaging related check ups are done at this stage.
Herbal Feed Products
Commenting on the herbal animal healthcare and feed products, Mr. Rajaj says, “For herbal medicine there are some products that work very well in the feed, like herbal vitamin C, and there are some which do not add any advantage in using the basic obstacle in expanding the market is, the nature of the business, as this industry is credit governed and not very organized this sometimes poses hindrances in expanding.”
Future Plans
The company has major plans for expansion in the near future. “We want to reach sales turnover of more than Rs.100 crores by 2010, and convert our existing manufacturing plant into a fully automatic one. We are the first company from North India to export poultry feed,” says Mr. Raja.
He further adds, “At the beginning, the turnover of our company was about Rs.10 crores. In the year 2001 we launched our own brand ‘Super Feed’ and that was also the year when I joined this organization. In the year 2004 I was appointed the director of the company. We have a great deal of experience in manufacturing feed, as we did some good volumes of feed manufacturing for “Gold Mohur” a company of Hindustan Liver Limited , now owned by Godrej Agrovet. European citizens seem to be mobilising for the 4-7 June European elections, says a TNS Opinion survey commissioned by the European Parliament. The numbers saying that they plan to vote is clearly up on previous surveys, even though doubts remain as to whether they will in fact do so. Interest in the elections also seems stronger. Unemployment and the economy still top the list of Europeans' concerns.
The poll points to a 49% turnout (fieldwork 4-15 May), up from 34% in the previous Eurobarometer survey (January and February). 43% of respondents said they were certain to vote and a further 6% said they were very likely to do so. 12% seem certain not to vote, down from 19% at the start of the year.
This survey does not provide a firm forecast of the 4-7 June election results. Its findings suggest that the number of citizens planning to vote is growing, but there is no guarantee that the turnout rate will be equivalent to that of 2004.
Greater interest
The May poll found that 53% of Europeans were interested in the elections, and 46% were not. At the start of the year, 44% were interested and 53% were not.
Unemployment and economic growth top the priority list
As to campaign issues, unemployment is still the top concern for 57% of Europeans, followed by economic growth (45%). Next come insecurity (32%), and the future of pensions (31%), which now come well ahead of inflation, purchasing power, and other broad concerns such as climate change and terrorism.

It is pertinent to mention here that Saints of Dera Ballan, Jalandhar, Punjab, India consrtucted a 7 storey historical holy temple and a memorial, Guru Ravidass Gate at Shri Guru Ravi Dass’ birth place at Seer Goverdhanpur Kashi, Varanasi in U.P, India. A150 Bed Sant Sarwan Dass Charitable Hospital for poor people at Adda Kuthar, an Eye Hospital at village Ballan and Sant Sarwan Dass Model School at Phagwara is running. For creating chetna (awareness) among dalits a weekly news paper ‘Begumpura Parwar’ and dalit literature is published under the supervision of 108 Sant Niranjan Dass, Sant Rama Nand, Sant Surinder Dass (Kuthar) and Sant Surinder Dass Bawa from Dera Ballan.
We demand and heartly request you that the necessary stern action should be taken against the culprits. We also urge the government to ensure the safety and security to all the Indians especially to the Dalits in Austria.

भारतीय छात्रों पर पिछले दिनों हमला हुआ जिसमें चार को चोटें आई हैं
भारत के प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने ऑस्ट्रलिया के प्रधानमंत्री केविन रड के सामने ऑस्ट्रलिया में भारतीय छात्रों पर हुए हमले पर अपनी चिंता ज़ाहिर की है.
शुक्रवार को दोपहर बाद ऑस्ट्रलिया के प्रधानमंत्री केविन रड ने भारतीय प्रधानमंत्री को उनके दोबारा प्रधानमंत्री बनने पर बधाई दी, तब मनमोहन सिंह ने अपनी चिंता से अवगत कराया.
उधर ऑस्ट्रलिया के विदेश मंत्री स्टीफ़न स्मिथ ने भारतीय विदेश मंत्रालय को फ़ोन किया.
भारतीय विदेश मंत्रालय की ओर से जारी बयान में कहा गया है कि भारत ने ऑस्ट्रलिया सरकार को अपनी चिंताओं से अवगत करा दिया है और कहा है कि हमले से भारतीय छात्र दुखी हैं और हमले बढ़ भी रहे हैं, ऐसे में सरकार के लिए लाज़मी है कि उसे रोके.
इससे पहले भारत के विदेश मंत्री एसएम कृष्णा ने ऑस्ट्रेलिया के प्रधानमंत्री केविन रड से बातचीत की थी.
वहीं विदेश मंत्रालय ने शुक्रवार को दिल्ली में नियुक्त ऑस्ट्रेलिया के उच्चायुक्त जॉन मैकार्थी को भी तलब कर अपना रोष व्यक्त किया था.
पिछले दिनों ऑस्ट्रेलिया के मेलबर्न में भारतीय छात्रों को निशाना बनाकर उनके घर पर कथित रूप से ऑस्ट्रेलियाई हमलावरों ने हमला किया था जिसमें चार भारतीय छात्र घायल हो गए थे.
इनमें से एक छात्र को बहुत गंभीर चोटें आई थीं और उसे नाज़ुक हालत में अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया है जहाँ अभी भी उसका इलाज जारी है.
भारतीय छात्रों के समूह और परिवार वालों का कहना है कि यह हमले नस्लभेद पर आधारित हैं और इन्हें किसी भी तरह से जायज़ नहीं ठहराया जा सकता है.
ऑस्ट्रेलिया में बड़ी तादाद में भारत से छात्र जाकर उच्च शिक्षा हासिल करते हैं. ऐसे में भारतीय छात्रों को निशाना बनाकर हुए हमलों को भारतीय छात्रों, उनके परिवारों, विदेश मंत्रालय और भारत सरकार ने गंभीरता से लिया है.
भारत की चिंता जायज़
शुक्रवार को भारत के विदेश मंत्रालय के अधिकारियों से मिलने के बाद दिल्ली में ऑस्ट्रेलिया के उच्चायुक्त जॉन मैकार्थी ने कहा कि भारत की चिंता जायज़ है और ऑस्ट्रेलिया मे भारतीय छात्रों पर हुए हमलों को वहां की सरकार ने भी गंभीरता से लिया है.

मेरी नज़र मे ये घटनाएं साफ़तौर पर आपराधिक गतिविधियां हैं, मैने ऐसे कोई प्रमाण नही देखे हैं जिनसे ये लगे कि ये नस्लभेदी हमले थे. पर मैं इस बात से भी इनकार नहीं कर सकता कि ऑस्ट्रेलिया में नस्लभेद मौजूद नहीं है, हम इसकी निंदा करते हैं, और हो सकता है की किसी हमले में नस्लभेद का मामला भी रहा हो
भारत में ऑस्ट्रेलिया के उच्चायुक्त
उन्होंने कहा कि भारतीय छात्रों की सुरक्षा को लेकर ऑस्ट्रेलिया प्रशासन ने कई कदम उठाए हैं.
विदेश मंत्रालय के अधिकारियों से मिलने के बाद उन्होने पत्रकारों से बात करते हुए कहा कि ऑस्ट्रेलिया मे भारतीय छात्रों पर हुए सभी हमले नस्लभेदी नहीं कहे जा सकते.
हालांकि उन्होंने माना कि, कुछ मामलों में ऐसा हो भी सकता है.
उन्होंने कहा, "मेरी नज़र मे ये घटनाएं साफ़तौर पर आपराधिक गतिविधियां हैं, मैने ऐसे कोई प्रमाण नही देखे हैं जिनसे ये लगे कि ये नस्लभेदी हमले थे. पर मैं इस बात से भी इनकार नहीं कर सकता कि ऑस्ट्रेलिया में नस्लभेद मौजूद नहीं है, हम इसकी निंदा करते हैं, और हो सकता है की किसी हमले में नस्लभेद का मामला भी रहा हो."
उधर ऑस्ट्रेलिया मे भारत की उच्चायुक्त सुजाता सिंह ने वहां के अधिकारियों से मिलकर भारतीय छात्रों में पनप रही असुरक्षा की भावना को समाप्त करने के लिए तुरंत क़दम उठाने की मांग की है.
बीबीसी से बातचीत में सुजाता सिंह ऑस्ट्रेलियाई प्रशासन की कोशिशों से संतुष्ट भी नज़र आईं.
कैनबरा में भारतीय उच्चायोग में एक और अधिकारी कांउसल जनरल अनीता नायर ने बीबीसी से बात की. उन्होंने कहा, "हमारी पुलिस अधिकारियों से बातचीत हुई है, वो सीधे भारतीय छात्रों तक पहुंचकर उन्हें भरोसा दिलाने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं कि वो ऑस्ट्रेलिया में सुरक्षित हैं, इसके अलावा बसों और रेल में पुलिस गश्त बढ़ा दी गई है. भारतीय छात्रों की मदद के लिए एक हैल्पलाइन पहले ही शुरु की जा चुकी है."
बढ़ती असुरक्षा
ऑस्ट्रेलिया का एक कॉलेज
अनुमान के अनुसार लगभग एक लाख भारतीय छात्र इस समय ऑस्ट्रेलिया में पढ़ाई के लिए रह रहे हैं
हाल की घटनाओं को लेकर वहां रह रहे भारतीयों मे असुरक्षा की भावना साफ़ देखी जा सकती है.
मेलबर्न में शिक्षक विक्रांत कहते हैं कि आमतौर पर भारतीय छात्रों पर हुए हमले रिपोर्ट ही नहीं होते हैं, पर इस बार मीडिया के दबाव में कुछ कदम उठाए जा रहे हैं.
अनुमान के अनुसार लगभग एक लाख भारतीय छात्र इस समय ऑस्ट्रेलिया में पढ़ाई के लिए रह रहे हैं.
इनमें से ज़्यादातर छात्र व्यावसायिक कोर्स पाठ्यक्रमों की पढ़ाई करने के लिए वहां जाते हैं. ये छात्र ऑस्ट्रेलिया के शिक्षा क्षेत्र को ज़बरदस्त कमाई देते हैं.
ऐसा माना जा रहा है की हाल के हमलों को गंभीरता से लेने की एक वजह ये भी है की जिस तरह से इन घटनाओं को मीडिया ने उछाला है उससे ऑस्ट्रेलिया पढ़ने जाने वाले छात्रों की तादाद कम हो सकती है.
फ़ेडरशन ऑफ़ इंडियन स्टूडेंटस एसोसिएशन' के संस्थापक गौतम गुप्ता का कहना है कि ये हमले नस्ली भेद-भाव पर आधारित थे.
उन्होंने दावा किया कि इसका नकारात्मक प्रभाव ऑस्ट्रेलिया के 35 लाख डॉलर के शिक्षा उद्योग पर पड़ेगा.

शुक्रवार को भारत के विदेश मंत्रालय के अधिकारियों से मिलने के बाद दिल्ली में ऑस्ट्रेलिया के उच्चायुक्त जॉन मैकार्थी ने कहा कि भारत की चिंता जायज़ है और ऑस्ट्रेलिया मे भारतीय छात्रों पर हुए हमलों को वहां की सरकार ने भी गंभीरता से लिया है.

मेरी नज़र मे ये घटनाएं साफ़तौर पर आपराधिक गतिविधियां हैं, मैने ऐसे कोई प्रमाण नही देखे हैं जिनसे ये लगे कि ये नस्लभेदी हमले थे. पर मैं इस बात से भी इनकार नहीं कर सकता कि ऑस्ट्रेलिया में नस्लभेद मौजूद नहीं है, हम इसकी निंदा करते हैं, और हो सकता है की किसी हमले में नस्लभेद का मामला भी रहा हो

उन्होंने कहा कि भारतीय छात्रों की सुरक्षा को लेकर ऑस्ट्रेलिया प्रशासन ने कई कदम उठाए हैं.
विदेश मंत्रालय के अधिकारियों से मिलने के बाद उन्होने पत्रकारों से बात करते हुए कहा कि ऑस्ट्रेलिया मे भारतीय छात्रों पर हुए सभी हमले नस्लभेदी नहीं कहे जा सकते.
हालांकि उन्होंने माना कि, कुछ मामलों में ऐसा हो भी सकता है.
उन्होंने कहा, "मेरी नज़र मे ये घटनाएं साफ़तौर पर आपराधिक गतिविधियां हैं, मैने ऐसे कोई प्रमाण नही देखे हैं जिनसे ये लगे कि ये नस्लभेदी हमले थे. पर मैं इस बात से भी इनकार नहीं कर सकता कि ऑस्ट्रेलिया में नस्लभेद मौजूद नहीं है, हम इसकी निंदा करते हैं, और हो सकता है की किसी हमले में नस्लभेद का मामला भी रहा हो."
उधर ऑस्ट्रेलिया मे भारत की उच्चायुक्त सुजाता सिंह ने वहां के अधिकारियों से मिलकर भारतीय छात्रों में पनप रही असुरक्षा की भावना को समाप्त करने के लिए तुरंत क़दम उठाने की मांग की है.
बीबीसी से बातचीत में सुजाता सिंह ऑस्ट्रेलियाई प्रशासन की कोशिशों से संतुष्ट भी नज़र आईं.
कैनबरा में भारतीय उच्चायोग में एक और अधिकारी कांउसल जनरल अनीता नायर ने बीबीसी से बात की. उन्होंने कहा, "हमारी पुलिस अधिकारियों से बातचीत हुई है, वो सीधे भारतीय छात्रों तक पहुंचकर उन्हें भरोसा दिलाने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं कि वो ऑस्ट्रेलिया में सुरक्षित हैं, इसके अलावा बसों और रेल में पुलिस गश्त बढ़ा दी गई है. भारतीय छात्रों की मदद के लिए एक हैल्पलाइन पहले ही शुरु की जा चुकी है."
बढ़ती असुरक्षा

अनुमान के अनुसार लगभग एक लाख भारतीय छात्र इस समय ऑस्ट्रेलिया में पढ़ाई के लिए रह रहे हैं
हाल की घटनाओं को लेकर वहां रह रहे भारतीयों मे असुरक्षा की भावना साफ़ देखी जा सकती है.
मेलबर्न में शिक्षक विक्रांत कहते हैं कि आमतौर पर भारतीय छात्रों पर हुए हमले रिपोर्ट ही नहीं होते हैं, पर इस बार मीडिया के दबाव में कुछ कदम उठाए जा रहे हैं.
अनुमान के अनुसार लगभग एक लाख भारतीय छात्र इस समय ऑस्ट्रेलिया में पढ़ाई के लिए रह रहे हैं.
इनमें से ज़्यादातर छात्र व्यावसायिक कोर्स पाठ्यक्रमों की पढ़ाई करने के लिए वहां जाते हैं. ये छात्र ऑस्ट्रेलिया के शिक्षा क्षेत्र को ज़बरदस्त कमाई देते हैं.
ऐसा माना जा रहा है की हाल के हमलों को गंभीरता से लेने की एक वजह ये भी है की जिस तरह से इन घटनाओं को मीडिया ने उछाला है उससे ऑस्ट्रेलिया पढ़ने जाने वाले छात्रों की तादाद कम हो सकती है.
फ़ेडरशन ऑफ़ इंडियन स्टूडेंटस एसोसिएशन' के संस्थापक गौतम गुप्ता का कहना है कि ये हमले नस्ली भेद-भाव पर आधारित थे.
उन्होंने दावा किया कि इसका नकारात्मक प्रभाव ऑस्ट्रेलिया के 35 लाख डॉलर के शिक्षा उद्योग पर पड़ेगा.

फ्रेंच ओपन में शुक्रवार का दिन भारत के लिए मिला-जुला रहा. एक ओर जहाँ लिएंडर और भूपति ने अपने-अपने जोड़ीदारों के साथ पुरुषों के डबल्स मुकाबले जीते जबकि सानिया महिलाओं के डबल्स मुकाबले से बाहर हो गईं.
अन्य मैचों में तीसरी वरियता प्राप्त वीनस विलियम्स फ़्रेंच ओपन से बाहर हो गईं. उन्हें हंगरी की एगनिस सज़ावे ने 6-0, 6-4 से हराया.
उधर दूसरे दौर के अपने मैच में लिएंडर पेस और लूकस ड्लोही ने जेम्स सेरटानी और सर्गेई स्टाखोवस्की को 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 से हराया.
पेस और ड्लोही पहला सेट 4-6 से हार गए लेकिन दूसरे सेट में दोनों ने वापसी की. दूसरा और तीसरा सेट पेस-ड्लूही आसानी से जीत गए.
उधर महेश भूपति और मार्क नोल्स ने भी अपने फ़्रेंच ओपन की शुरुआत जीत से की. दोनों ने फ़्रांस के जो विल्फ़्रेड सोंगा और जोसेलिन ओयाना को आसानी से सीधे सेटों में 6-3, 6-2 से मात दी.
भूपति और उनके जोड़ीदार शुरु से ही मैच में हावी रहे और दोनों को एक भी ब्रेकप्वाइंट का सामना नहीं करना पड़ा. वे ये मैच केवल 58 मिनट में जीत गए.

उधर सानिया मिर्ज़ा एकल मुकाबले के बाद अब महिलाओं के डबल्स मुकाबले से भी बाहर हो गई हैं.
सानिया और ताइपई की चुआंग जिया रूंग दूसरे दौर में गैर वरीयता प्राप्त पोलैंड की जोड़ी उर्शूला और अगनिऐशका रडवांशका से 6-4 ,6-7 (5) 3-6 से हार गईं.
सोनिया और उनकी साथी ने पहला सेट तो 6-4 से जीता लेकिन दूसरे सेट में संघर्ष करना पड़ा. उनके पास दूसरे सेट में मौका था लेकिन 10वीं गेम में वे चूक गईं और उनके प्रतिद्वंदियों ने मैच में वापसी कर ली.
तीसरा सेट सानिया और चुआंग 3-6 से हारीं. सानिया एकल मुकाबले से पहले ही बाहर हो चुकी हैं.

अमरीका के राष्ट्रपति बराक ओबामा ने अमरीकी कंप्यूटर नेटवर्क को साइबर अपराधों से बचाने के लिए योजना की घोषणा की है.
उन्होंने कहा कि अब से अमरीका के डिजीटल बुनियादी ढाँचे को राष्ट्रीय रणनीतिक महत्व दिया जाएगा. अमरीकी राष्ट्रपति ने ये भी घोषणा है कि व्हाइट हाउस में साइबर सेक्युरिटी कार्यालय खोला जाएगा.
पिछले कुछ सालों में अमरीकी सरकारी संस्थाओं और सेना के कई विभागों ने शिकायत की है कि उनके नेटवर्क के साथ छेड़छाड़ करने की कोशिश की गई है.
बराक ओबामा ने कहा है कि अमरीका के डिजीटल ढाँचे, नेटवर्क और कंप्यूटरों को सुरक्षित रखना राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा के हिसाब से प्राथमिकता रहेगी.
उन्होंने कहा, "हम सुनिश्चित करेंगे कि ये नेटवर्क सुरक्षित हो. और अगर हैकिंग होती है तो जल्द ही उस नुकसान को कम किया जा सके."
ओबामा ने कहा कि आतंकवाद को अंजाम देने के लिए अब कंप्यूटर को केवल क्लिक करना पड़ता है. उन्होंने इसे विनाशकारी हथियार की संज्ञा दी.

2007 में ही पेंटागन ने करीब 44000 हज़ार ऐसी घटनाएँ की जानकारी दी थी जिसमें विदेशी मिलिशिया, हैकरों ने साइबर अपराध किए थे.
प्रस्तावित साइबर सेक्युरिटी कार्यालय में कई अरब डॉलर लगाए जाएँगे जिसमें सरकारी कंप्यूटरों तक पहुँच रोकने की कोशिश की जाएगी, साथ ही स्टॉक एक्सचेंज और एयर ट्रैफ़िक कंट्रोल सिस्टम से जुड़े कंप्यूटरों को भी सुरक्षित रखा जाएगा.
अमरीकी राष्ट्रपति ने कहा कि नई योजना से आम नागरिकों को भी फ़ायदा होगा. उनका कहना था," लाखों लोग साइबर अपराधों का शिकार हुए हैं, साइबर अपराध से पिछले दो सालों में अमरीकियों को आठ अरब डॉलर का नुकसान हुआ है."

ਪੁਲਿਸ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਮੋਹੀਬੁਲ ਨੇ ਘਟਨਾ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਗੁਪਤ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਬਾਅਦ ਮਰਚੈਂਟ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਢਾਕਾ ਤੋਂ 90 ਕਿੱਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਦੂਰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਣਪੁਰੀਆ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਰੈਸਟੋਰੈਂਟ ਤੋਂ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ।ਮਰਚੈਂਟ ਨੂੰ ਕੈਸੇਟ ਕਿੰਗ ਕਹੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਲਸ਼ਨ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਦੀ ਹੱਤਿਆ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਠਹਿਰਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।ਮੁੰਬਈ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਮਰਚੇਂਟ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਦਾਊਦ ਇਬਰਾਹਿਮ ਦਾ ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕੀ ਸ ਮਝਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Alors que les bombes gouvernementales pleuvaient sur les réfugiés tamouls, les docteurs Thurairaja Varatharajah, Thangamuttu Sathyamurthi et V. Shanmugarajah sont restés jusqu'au bout, soignant ceux qui pouvaient l'être avec les moyens du bord. En l'absence de journalistes ou d'observateurs internationaux, les médecins tamouls sont devenus les derniers témoins d'une tragédie à huis clos qui a fait des milliers de morts, de fin janvier à fin mai, dans l'offensive finale de l'armée sri-lankaise contre le mouvement séparatiste des Tigres de libération de l'Eelam tamoul (LTTE).

Pour toute récompense, les docteurs, affiliés au ministère de la santé de Colombo, ont été emprisonnés, dès qu'ils ont pu quitter, le 15 mai, la bande de plage du Nord-Est, où l'armée a donné l'assaut final. "Si, un jour, on fait le procès du régime, ce seront des témoins clés, c'est pour ça qu'ils voulaient les tuer et ont été très déçus qu'ils s'en sortent", explique un responsable international.
Ce responsable international a été en contact avec les docteurs mais refuse de donner son nom, de peur d'être expulsé. "Ces types sont des héros, on fait des films sur ce genre de personnes", ajoute-t-il. Durant le conflit, depuis des ordinateurs connectés à des téléphones satellitaires, au fur et à mesure qu'ils déplaçaient leurs hôpitaux de fortune, ils ont envoyé des courriels, comme des bouteilles à la mer.
Le Monde s'est procuré certains de ces documents, souvent brefs, sobres, presque cliniques. Exemple : "29 avril 2009. Cher Monsieur, Madame, aujourd'hui, aux alentours de 16 heures, l'hôpital de Mullivaikkal a été attaqué au mortier. Le toit du pavillon a été très endommagé et des patients à l'intérieur sont morts. Neuf patients morts et quinze patients blessés. Beaucoup de patients ont quitté l'hôpital. Ce matin, un officier du CICR a visité l'hôpital aux alentours de 11 heures. Salutations. Docteur T. Sathiyamoorthy, directeur régional des services de santé."
Les destinataires étaient un cercle de fonctionnaires de l'ONU, de responsables sri-lankais, de diplomates et de membres de la diaspora. Les photos numériques qui accompagnent chaque message, prises par les médecins ou des employés locaux de l'ONU, montrent crûment, au bord de la plage, corps démembrés, plaies béantes, femmes en larmes et enfants à l'agonie - le résultat de bombardements à l'arme lourde contre des civils sous des tentes en plastique, que les Tigres tamouls empêchaient de fuir, et dont l'armée n'avait que faire.
"Les docteurs évitaient toujours les questions politiques, ils faisaient simplement leur boulot", se souvient le responsable international. Rarement trahissaient-ils le moindre sentiment. Sauf un jour. Au téléphone, Thangamuttu Sathiyamoorthy est au bord des larmes. Une femme, dont les deux jambes ont été sectionnées au niveau des cuisses par des éclats d'obus, est en train de se vider de son sang sous une bâche, qui frémit au rythme de ses derniers souffles. Sa petite fille, que des patients tentent de distraire, implore le docteur de la sauver. Elle a perdu son père et c'est toute la famille qu'il lui reste. Les médecins, qui n'ont plus de matériel depuis des mois, ne peuvent rien faire. "Sathiyamoorthy m'a dit : "J'ai toujours su que la guerre viendrait, mais je n'ai jamais pensé que ça finirait sous un tapis de bombes"", se souvient le responsable international.
A plusieurs reprises, lorsque le bateau du CICR accostait sur la plage pour évacuer les blessés, les docteurs fournissaient à l'organisation les coordonnées GPS de leurs centres médicaux itinérants, pour qu'ils préviennent l'armée de leur position. "Quelques heures plus tard, l'armée bombardait ce point précis", rapporte cette source.
Sur la fin, le ton des e-mails change. 13 mai : "Les combats à l'arme lourde ont commencé à 5 h 30 du matin. Beaucoup de civils blessés ont été amenés à l'hôpital, et l'hôpital ne fournit plus de soins parce qu'il est sous des tirs de mortier (...). Près d'un millier de patients attendent leur traitement quotidien.(...) Tant de blessés ont dû mourir. Dans le pavillon, il y a de nombreux cadavres parmi les patients. On peut voir et entendre les patients pleurer dans l'hôpital, c'est un vrai désastre."
"Ce sont des médecins qui improvisent, qui font tout ce qu'ils peuvent, même s'il faut arrêter une hémorragie avec un bout de ficelle ou panser une plaie avec un drap", explique notre source. Mais les dernières semaines, "ils disaient qu'il était temps de partir, qu'ils ne pouvaient plus soigner les gens. C'était trop dangereux, ils ne pouvaient plus sortir des bunkers. Il n'y avait aucun matériel, ils étaient dépassés par le nombre de blessés. Ça tirait de tous côtés. L'armée était à 500 mètres. Il y avait des morts partout autour d'eux".
Détenus en vertu des "régulations d'urgence" et du Prevention of Terrorism Act qui permettent de les garder enfermés un an avant de les inculper, les trois docteurs n'ont formellement été accusés de rien. Mais dans la presse aux ordres, ils sont "soupçonnés d'avoir fait des déclarations désobligeantes dans les médias et la communauté internationale en faveur des LTTE." "Le gouvernement ne va pas les laisser partir parce qu'ils peuvent témoigner des crimes de guerre commis par l'armée", prédit un défenseur des droits de l'homme, qui craint qu'ils soient, comme tant d'autres, soumis à la torture.
Leurs familles ont été menacées par des paramilitaires tamouls progouvernement qui surveillent leurs maisons, les suivent dans la rue et posent des questions sur leur lieu de travail. "Si vous avez affaire à ces groupes, vous retrouverez le torse de votre fille dans un réservoir dans quelques jours", explique le responsable international. Les ONG et plusieurs missions diplomatiques tentent d'obtenir la libération des docteurs, pour qu'ils puissent s'installer dans un pays d'accueil.
Dans un pays où plus de 60 employés humanitaires ont été tués en trois ans, et où des journalistes connus ou des défenseurs des droits de l'homme sont couramment enlevés en plein jour par des hommes en armes, parfois pour ne jamais réapparaître, rares sont ceux qui s'expriment. Il n'est qu'à lire les derniers titres de "une" des principaux journaux, The Island ou le Daily News : "Complicité avec les terroristes au prétexte du soutien des droits de l'homme" ; "Les journalistes payés par le LTTE seront dénoncés" (citation du comandant de l'armée, le général Sarath Fonseka) ; "L'expertise des ONG a aidé le LTTE"...
"Ici, c'est pire qu'en Birmanie", affirme un fonctionnaire onusien, selon lequel les bureaux de l'ONU sont sur écoute. Le régime, dit-il, a repris à son compte le mantra bushien : "Vous êtes avec nous, ou contre nous". "Depuis la victoire, on ne peut plus les arrêter. C'est un Etat militaire et ça ne va faire qu'empirer", prévient le défenseur des droits de l'homme. Pour l'heure, les médecins, "héroïques" selon l'ONU, croupissent en détention. Mais ils pourraient un jour se retrouver dans le box des témoins, et leurs geôliers sur le banc des accusés.

A plusieurs reprises, lorsque le bateau du CICR accostait sur la plage pour évacuer les blessés, les docteurs fournissaient à l'organisation les coordonnées GPS de leurs centres médicaux itinérants, pour qu'ils préviennent l'armée de leur position. "Quelques heures plus tard, l'armée bombardait ce point précis", rapporte cette source.
Sur la fin, le ton des e-mails change. 13 mai : "Les combats à l'arme lourde ont commencé à 5 h 30 du matin. Beaucoup de civils blessés ont été amenés à l'hôpital, et l'hôpital ne fournit plus de soins parce qu'il est sous des tirs de mortier (...). Près d'un millier de patients attendent leur traitement quotidien.(...) Tant de blessés ont dû mourir. Dans le pavillon, il y a de nombreux cadavres parmi les patients. On peut voir et entendre les patients pleurer dans l'hôpital, c'est un vrai désastre."
"Ce sont des médecins qui improvisent, qui font tout ce qu'ils peuvent, même s'il faut arrêter une hémorragie avec un bout de ficelle ou panser une plaie avec un drap", explique notre source. Mais les dernières semaines, "ils disaient qu'il était temps de partir, qu'ils ne pouvaient plus soigner les gens. C'était trop dangereux, ils ne pouvaient plus sortir des bunkers. Il n'y avait aucun matériel, ils étaient dépassés par le nombre de blessés. Ça tirait de tous côtés. L'armée était à 500 mètres. Il y avait des morts partout autour d'eux".
Détenus en vertu des "régulations d'urgence" et du Prevention of Terrorism Act qui permettent de les garder enfermés un an avant de les inculper, les trois docteurs n'ont formellement été accusés de rien. Mais dans la presse aux ordres, ils sont "soupçonnés d'avoir fait des déclarations désobligeantes dans les médias et la communauté internationale en faveur des LTTE." "Le gouvernement ne va pas les laisser partir parce qu'ils peuvent témoigner des crimes de guerre commis par l'armée", prédit un défenseur des droits de l'homme, qui craint qu'ils soient, comme tant d'autres, soumis à la torture.
Leurs familles ont été menacées par des paramilitaires tamouls progouvernement qui surveillent leurs maisons, les suivent dans la rue et posent des questions sur leur lieu de travail. "Si vous avez affaire à ces groupes, vous retrouverez le torse de votre fille dans un réservoir dans quelques jours", explique le responsable international. Les ONG et plusieurs missions diplomatiques tentent d'obtenir la libération des docteurs, pour qu'ils puissent s'installer dans un pays d'accueil.
Dans un pays où plus de 60 employés humanitaires ont été tués en trois ans, et où des journalistes connus ou des défenseurs des droits de l'homme sont couramment enlevés en plein jour par des hommes en armes, parfois pour ne jamais réapparaître, rares sont ceux qui s'expriment. Il n'est qu'à lire les derniers titres de "une" des principaux journaux, The Island ou le Daily News : "Complicité avec les terroristes au prétexte du soutien des droits de l'homme" ; "Les journalistes payés par le LTTE seront dénoncés" (citation du comandant de l'armée, le général Sarath Fonseka) ; "L'expertise des ONG a aidé le LTTE"...
"Ici, c'est pire qu'en Birmanie", affirme un fonctionnaire onusien, selon lequel les bureaux de l'ONU sont sur écoute. Le régime, dit-il, a repris à son compte le mantra bushien : "Vous êtes avec nous, ou contre nous". "Depuis la victoire, on ne peut plus les arrêter. C'est un Etat militaire et ça ne va faire qu'empirer", prévient le défenseur des droits de l'homme. Pour l'heure, les médecins, "héroïques" selon l'ONU, croupissent en détention. Mais ils pourraient un jour se retrouver dans le box des témoins, et leurs geôliers sur le banc des accusés.
