Following is the text of letter written to CM to summon a meeting of ‘Bet’ Area Council of Punjab at the earliest in view of the ensuing monsoon season. As we are aware floods had created immense damage to life and property in our state last year, therefore the above said council must meet to be prepared to meet any such eventuality.

Subject:      Request to summon a meeting of the ‘Bet’ Area Council of Punjab set up under your Chairmanship, to discuss important matters related to Flood Control measures and other development activities of constituencies falling under ‘Bet’ Area.

Sir,

                   The above stated Bet Area Council had been formed afresh after the formation of your Govt. in 2007. Needless to mention this Council is supposed to deal with the all important work of adopting appropriate measures to tackle the menace of floods besides taking up development works on priority in constituencies falling under Bet Area.

 

                   Two meetings were fixed in the year 2008 and agenda circulated to members, unfortunately those meetings were cancelled at the last minute owing to your pre occupation with other social engagements. Monsoon  season is again fast approaching in Punjab which reminds us of the havoc created by floods in the state last year, which destroyed thousands of Acres  of crops, people were rendered homeless and many human lives were lost.

 

                   Besides constituencies such as 26 Bholath that I represent, have a major chunk which falls in the Bet Area that need urgent attention of the state govt. for improving infrastructure at the earliest and to tackle the menace of floods. Even otherwise Bet area is construed to be the most backward area of the state with poor basic facilities such as Schools, Hospitals, Road connectivity and safe drinking water.

 

                   Therefore in public interest, I would request you that an urgent meeting of the above stated Council be summoned at the earliest, to discuss important matter including flood control measures for Punjab. This meeting is also important since, I feel that we also do not  avail and utilize the central grants which are returned annually due to non utilization of flood control funds by the state. Lastly, I am attaching a list of urgent works of 26 – Bholath Constituency may kindly be brought on the agenda of the Bet Area Council meeting as and when held.

 

List of items proposed for Bet Area Council Meeting Agenda.

 

1)       To discuss my proposal sent under PMGSY to construct a 48 KM road on the left bank of River Beas  to strengthen the ‘Dhussi Bandh’ and offer connectivity. This proposal is pending with the PWD B X R Department of the state.

 

2)       To construct an overbridge on the ‘Kali Bein’ between Bhadas and Baagwanpur Villages of block Nadala. Roads from both villages upto Kali Bein have already been constructed. Proposal lying with the Irrigation department.

 

3)       To construct an overbridge on the ‘Kali Bein’ at Bholath Nagar Panchayat, since a large chunk of agriculture land falls across the ‘Kali Bein’ at Bholath. Proposal pending with Irrigation department. 

 

4)       To construct an overbridge on ‘Kali Bein’ at v. Khassan block Nadala for similar reason stated above. Proposal lying with Irrigation deptt.

 

5)       To construct an overbridge an Bhadas Drain at V. Bakarpur block Nadala since the agricultural land of the said village falls across the small drain. This proposal needs to be taken from the irrigation deptt. of Jalandhar Circle.
