Capt Amarinder condemns manhandling of Tehsildar; asks Badal to deliver or quit

CHANDIAGARH, June 20: Condemning the brutal and shameful attack on the Ludihana Tehsildar Major Benipal, by a mob led by an Akali councilor in Ludhiana on Friday, the former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today asked the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal to either deliver by maintaining law and order in the State or to quit. He pointed ou thatt there was a sense of fear and insecurity among the officers in the police, administration and other government organizations as Akali goondas had taken the law into their hands.

Reacting to the stripping and merciless manhandling of a Tehsildar in his office in Ludhhiana in full public view, the former Chief Minister said, the silence of the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and the Deputy Chief Minister holding the Home portfolio on the issue was intriguing. “It simply conveys the impression that they did not disapprove of the criminal and shameful acts of these Akali Goondas”,Capt Amarinder remarked.

Capt Amarinder Singh said, while the officers and other employees had already lost trust in this government, the latest incident had shaken them all. “Everybody has started feeling insecure with Akali goondas going on the rampage without any fear of law”, he pointed out, while adding, there is total lawlessness in the state. “ At one time these things happened in Bihar, but now such incidents are happening in Punjab”, he regretted, while pointing out, “they (the Akalis) almost lynched one of our officers”.

Expressing his solidarity with the officers and employees, the former Chief Minister said, that he and his party stood firmly by them.

He said, the culprits must be arrested immediately and put behind bars. “Mere registration of a case will not serve any purpose as these hardly served any purpose in the past”, he pointed out, while adding, these are the same goondas who attacked the mother of Ludhiana MP Manish Tewari during the election campaigning and were also involved in the violence in Bathinda. He pointed out, one of the accused happened to be the Chief Election agent of Ms Harsimrat Kaur Badal during the parliamentary elections in Bathinda, making it obvious as to whose support and protection they were getting.

He further pointed out that all those involved should be booked under section 307IPC, for attempt to murder and under all sections of the IPC for beating up an officer on duty.
