Punjab govt approves bids for super specility cancer hospitals at Mohali and Bathinda

CHANDIGARH: In a significant step aimed at strengthening the medical and healthcare infrastructure in the state, the Punjab government today approved the major projects to set up 2 Super Speciality Cancer Hospitals one at Mohali and another at Bathinda in the public private partnership mode.
Disclosing this here Friday a spokesman of the Punjab government said that these projects had been awarded to the top most healthcare enterprise – Max Healthcare in the country. The bidders have already deposited up front charges of Rs.4.50 crore and Rs.1.50 crore for these mega-hospital projects at Mohali and Bathinda respectively, besides this the company would also offer 5% of its gross turnover every year to the state government. Both these projects would be completed within 18 months.
It may be recalled that the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal had accorded the top most priority for the up-gradation of medical and healthcare infrastructure to ensure health facilities to the people at affordable rates. As a part of this initiative he had already initiated a mammoth project for the modernization of Amritsar Medical College at a cost of Rs.150 crore besides upgrading the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College & Hospital Faridkot at a cost of Rs.68 crore. The state government had already recruited 141 super speciality medical specialists and 100 medical officers would soon be recruited through Punjab Public Service Commission.
