Tewari gets Rs 50 cr sanctioned for Budha Nullah cleansing

LUDHIANA, August 13(Dharamvir Nagpal Paris) The government of India has sanctioned an additional grant of Rs fifty crore for the cleaning of the Budha Nullah. This would be over and above the existing schemes going on for the Budha Nullah cleaning.

Disclosing this here today, the local MP Manish Tewari said, he had promised in his manifesto that the cleaning of the Budha Nullah would be his top priority. Even the Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi had announced during his campaign visit to Ludhiana that Budha Nullah pollution would be taken care of by the government of India.

Tewari said, keeping his word with the people of the city, he pursued the case immediately with the government of India which agreed to his proposal. He said, although the cleansing of the Budha Nullah is a herculean task, but a good beginning has already been made and it would certainly be taken to its logical conclusion.

He said, the government of India has sanctioned Rs 250 crore additional grant to the Punjab government for five separate projects located in different parts. Budha Nullah is one of these projects.

The notification to his effect has already been issued by the secretary planning government of Punjab on August 10.

Tewari promised that he would ensure that adequate funds are allocated by the government of India for the cleaning of the Budha Nullah. However, he pointed out, much will depend on the state government also which is the executing agency. He said, he would ensure that the project (of cleaning the Budha Nullah) is completed in a time bound manner.

“Well begun is half done”, he remarked, while adding, he was preparing a comprehensive project for getting the nullah cleaned so that the people do not suffer on account of its pollution. He promised, funds will be no problem, but much will depend on the will, efficiency and cooperation of the state government for executing these projects and spending the money properly and judiciously.
